After selling out London's Third Man Records and preparing for their upcoming tour, Brighton-based Oral Habit have signed to Krautpop! Records and released new single, 'The Glove'.
Following their EP, Garage Frock, released in 2025, ‘The Glove’ is their first release of the year. Scratchy and understated, the trio sticks close to their psych-rock side. Released on DIY label Krautpop! Records, the track explores what a “gloved” life involves, the importance of experience and the dangers of comfort.
The track is led by Charlie Hales’ melodic vocals, dancing upon the punk and psychedelic inspired Krautrock sound. The track begins with the hook of fuzz driven guitar until the ten second mark where it is joined by the crash of cymbals by drummer Felix Hales and bass from Tippi Lewis. The guitar and bass remain drenched in fuzz throughout the track and jaunty synth joins the ensemble throughout the chorus, adding a melodic accompaniment. There’s a momentum of swagger behind the song, that it is being propelled by its own force of will.
The track begins to deconstruct in the last 30 seconds, ending on an off note and leaving the listener uncomfortable and wanting more. The abrupt cut off at the end sonically underlines the crash and chaos of the song, with a few seconds of feedback playing until the end. It gifts the track an impression of live atmosphere.
Although Krautpop! Records is a Falmouth based DIY label, housing the likes of Enabling Behaviour and School Disco, Oral Habit are undoubtedly a Brighton band. Filming their music video inside a practice space, they present a simple yet gripping performance that allows the music to take centre stage. Directed by Gianni Battaglia, the focus is all on the band, giving an understated yet captivating performance. Gloved hands appear climbing over the band and their instruments, only to be quickly shrugged off, disrupting an otherwise grounded video.
Keep up to speed with Oral Habit.
